Super Learning Day
This week the pupils took part in a Super Learning Day where they engaged in a variety of different activities to gain a better understanding of the Hindu faith and all about the preparations leading up to the festival Diwali.
As part of the day we visited our neighbours at the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir Temple.
The Digital Pathway pupils used their photography skills to capture some fantastic images of the beautiful building and then interviewed one of the volunteers.
The Food Technology pathway supported our younger pupils in making Diwali sweets, they all enjoyed eating them, even the staff.
The day was action packed and included the pupils from the Sports and outdoors pathway leading the way in a few games of cricket.
Before pupils got their breath back they were Hindu dancing with the Performing Arts pathway pupils.
Diwali is the ‘Festival of Lights’; the children created their diya lamps from salt dough as well as vibrant rangoli patterns using chalk, beads and different crafts.
At the temple the children were told the story of ‘Rama and Sita’, on their return to school some made puppets, others comic strips, to re-enact their version.
Thank you to all the staff and volunteers at the Temple for arranging the day. It’s lovely to see the pupils embrace different cultures, and the respect they show towards them, particularly whilst in the Temple, is exemplary, they really are a credit to our school.
