This week at Samuel Laycock…
(10.2.23)
As ever, it’s been a busy week here at Samuel Laycock. Here’s some of the highlights from thepast few days…
The horticulture pathway collected a ‘build your own willow dome kit’ from DB Garden nurseries in Hyde this week.
The kit will be planted on the field and will be used as an entrance to the sensory garden that they hope to create.
This is a work in progress and we will update as we go along. The pupils have been researching how to plant and assemble it and we are hoping that it will end up looking like the one on the picture!
Elsewhere, everyone enjoyed participating in Safer Internet Day. The theme for this year is ‘Making space for conversations about life online’.
Pupils had lots of activities and discussions about what they enjoy doing online, what the risks are and what they could do to keep ourselves safe. We celebrated with an assembly where pupils learnt more tips for keeping safe and also who we can talk to if we are worried about anything we see or do when we are online.
As part of English this term, one of our classes have been researching reviews and how they are used.
To help them with their learning they experienced a trip out to Hollywood Bowl, where they enjoyed a game of bowling, with some even managing a strike!
They then all sat down and enjoyed a meal together, before writing down some bullet points of the experience, commenting on the deco of the place, what they ordered, what they liked and disliked and finally what the verdict might be.
Also this week, some year 8 pupils have been washing cars as part of their Careers enterprise topic.
They spent £9.66 on products in B & Q, and washed 6 cars at £5 each so made a profit of £20.34.
Now they just need to decide which charity to donate the profit to!
