Boxing, Building & Going Underground!

A lot has happened since our last Friday round up blog, whcih was titled ‘A bit of everything…’

This blog could be given the same name, as we’ve got another diverse round up of news from Samuel Laycock.

Let’s kick things off with Devon, who recently signed up to a 12-week boxing & mentoring programme through Collyhurst & Moston Boxing Club.

This provision is aimed to raise self-esteem, confidence, reduce stress & anxiety through the development of new boxing skills.

Well done, Devon.

Next, we’ve got some photos from two of our career focused sessions, firstly with our Year 10 & 11 pupils, who visited Hare Hill COnstruction site in Hyde.

Our pupils spent time in the manager’s office looking at planning schedules, out on site investigating groundwork projects and finally getting inside a new home to see how stud walls and insulation is fitted. We would like to thank the site team at Equans for their tour which was a great experience for our pupils.

And secondly, three representatives from AMEY came into school to deliver two assemblies to all our pupils. They discussed the work carried out by AMEY teams that maintain the motorways.

The pupils were given the opportunity to ask questions about their respective careers and what routes they took to gain employment.

We hope this is the start of a long lasting relationship with AMEY and we are planning further hands on experiences in the future.

Where better to finish this blog though, than with the 4 pupils who went down to London.

Jess, Bailey, Faye and Sam were outstanding ambassadors for Samuel Laycock when they were chosen to represent the school at the Anne Frank Youth Conference at the London Design Centre in Islington.

Another brilliant and varied week at Samuel Laycock.

What will we get up to next week?!

Stay tuned to the blog and our Facebook to find out!
